Counting and Check-Weighing Scales
COUNTING SCALES
These are super useful and are widely employed in industrial and commercial settings. Simply put, they can greatly help in any situation where a large number of identical items need counting accurately. All that is needed is for a small hand counted sample, 10 for instance, to be placed on the scale while it is set to 'sample' mode and then input this number via the keyboard. This then shows on the display and from then on any quantity placed on the scale will display the number of items on the weigh-pan or scoop . If a container is required to hold the items it is put on first then the weight of this 'zeroed off' using the 'Tare' button. An inexpensive machine such as our Baxtran BC Counting Scale is more than adequate in most situations, but we do stock more sensitive machines for very demanding applications.
The many uses of counting scales include:
Stocktaking - This can be a difficult and time-consuming job but all too few people recognise that Counting Scales can make this job far easier.
Wholesale and Retail - Where a specific number of items must be put into every pack for sale or shipment etc.
Manufacturing - To count the number of nuts, bolts, washers, springs or any other small components needed for a product in manufacture.
Warehousing - For inventory management etc.
Pharmaceuticals - Accuracy here is obviously vital, and not all tablets are bubble packed. Sometimes the pharmacist may have to hand count a specific number to match a prescription.
The overall main benefits of using Counting Scales are that they give a cost reduction due to the time saved by their use, and count accuracy because of the elimination of human error.
CHECK-WEIGHING SCALES
These also are used to great effect in retail and industrial situations. With this type of scale, a ‘target weight’ is set and items are added until this is reached. On some machines there is a colour indication on the display for under, over or OK (within the set tolerance) and a selectable audible indication of correct weight.
Wholesale and Retail - These enable speedy pre-packing of goods sold by weight rather than quantity such as nuts, liquids, powder etc. and loose sweets where the weight of the individual items may vary slightly.
Food industry - They allow ingredients to be repeatedly measured out with accuracy to ensure consistency within the finished product.
Manufacturing - in production line manufacture the product may consist of a pre-allocated number of component parts, and there may be several of each part. Check-weighing scales can help to ensure that the right number of parts have been allocated to each bin containing them.
Main benefits are with cost savings by minimising waste, and efficiency by ensuring less wasted time.
